Is it legal to say someone is going to die in 6 weeks when you are not sure?

I seen on the news that Steve Jobs had 6 weeks to live, then he dies. Then i Google and found it its just a rumor, but our local news reported it as fact. Isn't that Slander to say all mighty jobs is going to die when they aren't 100% wrong?
