Is it bad to give Wheat to dogs?

The other day I bought wheat germ. Being diabetic, I have been recommended to eat wheat based products. Honestly, I do not like wheat bread as much nor wheat pasta. However, when I bought wheat germ and mixed it with 2pct milk with a bit of equal, I found it to be delicious. My dog, Haze, kept on staring at me, and I gave her a bit to taste. She when wild over it and since then, I have been giving her a small portion. I noticed that her appetite has increased ever since then and she gets wild and anxious when she sees me preparing this shake. Does anyone know if giving wheat is harmful to dogs? Thanks
