Are secret recipes Patented or Trademarked?

I'm a chef and have a recipe that was ped down from my Mother. People love when I make the dish. I actually cook it for our mayor and his staff who loves it. I want to make it mine where no one else can use it without my say so. Do I patent it or get it trademarked?
